My Students

Not to brag, but I teach the most compassionate, inquisitive and creative group of three-year-olds in all of Baltimore City. This is a tall order, given that this is the first time these students have ever been in school! My goal for their first year of school is to give them a nurturing, safe school environment where they feel comfortable taking risks while they learn.

My Together at 3 class is comprised of six typically developing students and six students with severe disabilities.

Despite their many differences, my students come together every day and work as a whole learning community.

Not only do I teach this wonderful class, but I oversee the entire early learning grade band. This grade band includes three inclusion classrooms, two for three year olds and one for four year olds, and two that are self-contained.

My Project

Can you imagine being stuck inside all day? In the same room, with the same things, the same people, with nothing new? If we, as adults, can't imagine it...or can (with very negative experiences) how can we expect our young learners to feel any differently?

With these outdoor materials, our students will be able to explore and experience new, natural, and exciting learning environments.

Where we once only had adult tables on the playground, we will soon have adapted tables and chairs to teach lessons to our students outside. Where we once only had swings, we will now have balance beams, blocks, and ramps for our students to create and explore. These materials will allow our students to combine their need for movement and creativity with the teachers' need for creating a constructive learning environment.
