Our school is in a health and nutrition school in a city district of New York. The school serves grades pre-kindergarten through three. We are a tight-knit school where the students love to be in school. The students need fun and engaging activities to foster their love of learning at a young age.
Many of them may not have access to these experiences at home, so I want to provide that for them in the classroom.
Many of my students come from immigrant homes where English is not the first language. This has not hindered their enthusiasm and curiosities. They have questions and ideas but are always in need of resources for inspiration and reference.
My Project
Books take us on adventures and leave us with many experiences! As third graders, my students are truly coming into their own and discovering a lot about character development. Books have taught them a lot about the world. I chose texts with strong characters. We would use these books as mentor texts for writing, for read alouds and for our classroom library for students to choose for their independent reading bags.
This project includes books that encompass a variety of interests and include both female and male protagonists!
I also included several texts written by Asian Americans to show my students they too can become authors! My students love reading and immersing themselves into different worlds and adventures! These new books would bring them on new adventures!
