My Project
As a special education teacher, I am aware that reading can be challenging and frustrating for my students. Working in a school in a community of low socioeconomic status, accessibility to print-rich literature is difficult for families to afford. In the grade that my students are in, my classroom lacks the books that are at their appropriate reading level and the room does not have any leveled reading books at the reading levels that my students are reading at. I want my students to be able to use books that they are capable of reading confidently on their own and make them want to read and grow as readers, as well as being utilized for guided reading groups.
