My Project

Hello! I am a special education teacher in Arizona! My project is to begin a gardening club for my students in order to help them recognize how plants are so important to us! There are so many vegetables, succulents, flowers, and herbs that will thrive in the desert with the proper care!

I think that this project will foster responsibility in students, give them something to nurture, and provide an opportunity to be proud of what they can grow with the proper care.

Additionally, it allows the opportunity to learn more about the desert climate and understand several plants will grow here even though Tucson is such a dry desert! They will also be checking the soil ph levels and using math and science to make conclusions about what is the best level for our desert area.

This project will be seen throughout our campus! The students will be able to share their knowledge with others, including their parents. I think that many other students without special needs will become interested in what my classes are doing, and I hope that this is inspiring! This will promote inclusion and collaboration!
