Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Remember the first time you flew a kite? The feeling of freedom and fun that accompanied it was surely priceless.
I work at a low income, Title I school at which most of our students qualify for free lunch.
Many of my students will be the first in their families to graduate from high school. Many of my students are college-bound, highly motivated, hard working and dream of success.
My Project
I would like these Frustrationless Flyer kite kits so that my students can make connections between what they are reading and real life. Many of my students have never flown a kite, and have only read about it. After reading The Kite Runner, students will be able to understand the important and central idea of kites in the book through building and flying their own kites.
In the past, some students have purchased their own kites and we have flown them.
While it is always an awesome experience for my students and one that the seniors at our school always look forward to, it is unfair that some students are unable to afford their own kites. That is why I would like these kites for my students: so that they are all able to participate and learn from this unique experience.
