This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In the Bay Area, we are blessed with a fantastic variety of incredible sports teams. Finding fun ways to teach data collection, stats, probability, and other basic math and science skills can be difficult. So, we have decided to create a STEAM sports corner of learning. We will track Bay Area sports teams over the next two years, keeping track of different data points, like scores, player stats, and season standings. We will track which Bay Area team is playing each morning and prepare the stats from the day before.

The teams we will be tracking are the San Jose Sharks, San Francisco Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Golden State Warriors, San Jose Earthquakes, Bay FC, Oakland Roots, Oakland A's, and Bay Area Panthers.

Each student will get a notebook to track scores and keep data points. We will have one class notebook per team where students will take turns recording data points decided on by the class. The class will be broken into expert groups on different data points for each team. The groups will help research and provide data points to the rest of the classroom. We hope this is the start of many projects where we can use this sports data to focus on other areas of STEAM, like creating art projects about players or teams to put the A of art into STEAM. With its fun decorations and colorful notebooks, this corner will help get the students fired up about math and science.
