My Project
Math talk is something that we do daily in our third grade classroom. As a teacher, I strive to cultivate an environment that fosters conversations about math that also embeds active engagement into my lessons. Returning to the classroom after Covid with restrictions such as distancing and eliminating group activities, I have seen a decrease in student engagement during our guided practice.
My students are at the age where they are curious and inquisitive.
I would really love to create a math talk corner to help build back a classroom environment that is welcoming of discussions and encourages mathematical talk amongst my students. I would love for them to have a spot to become actively engaged with our math curriculum and a spot to share a love for math!
With not being able to share supplies, we do not have enough dry erase boards for each student. These are important components of my whole group instruction because they allow students to have "think time" and to model their mathematical thinking. I would love a microphone to make my students feel special and in the "spotlight"! These items will help my students to grow not only mathematically but socially as well!
