it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a Speech-Language Pathologist at an elementary school in an underserved area of Los Angeles. My students have complex communication needs, including speech sound disorders, autism, and language deficits. Special education is a crucial part of our education system that requires a lot of support and funding.
My young students are working hard just to learn how to ask for their basic needs!
Research has shown that interactive and engaging toys/books are the most beneficial in developing the abilities needed for curriculum access and improved life skills.
My Project
As a speech-language pathologist, it is my job to help students with communication disorders navigate the academic environment and provide them with whatever skills and strategies that I can to be successful in school. Communication is defined as “the process by which information, thoughts, feelings, and ideas are exchanged between individuals.”
To be an effective communicator, a person must be able to listen, comprehend, formulate thoughts, plan how to respond, provide an appropriate expressive response, and utilize appropriate social interaction.
These books and games will engage my students in therapy and help them to achieve their fullest potential! I want them to be excited to communicate and learn, because they deserve that chance.
