My Project
When I was a high school student, I loved looking at the bookshelves in my English teachers' rooms to see what books we would get to read next. It was in those rooms that I developed a love of reading, which is a passion that I have carried now to my classroom as a teacher. Here at my school, I have the good fortune to teach an incredible community of immigrant students learning English for the first time. Our students have come from Brazil, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala Nepal, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, and more.
These students are excited to read new stories and learn English, but their classroom does not have bookshelves proudly displaying the books that once made my English rooms as a kid so memorable.
That is why I am asking for help to buy a bookshelf that will be able to house the books we will read this year. I want an environment that makes our students feel at home in a literary community, able to skim the pages of the next book they'll read, and excited to learn more in the future.
