Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help me get my students prepared for success! I teach high school juniors and seniors in a low-income, urban district. The class for which I am requesting these materials is a standard level junior class.
Many of my students come to school ill-prepared each fall, without so much as a notebook to write in. They are eager to learn, and they want to know how to succeed. Unfortunately many of my students were never presented with the organizational skills or materials necessary to find success. I want to change that! I want to show them exactly how to find success, through being well-prepared for school.
If my students were able to have a pencil pouch filled with basic classroom necessities such as highlighters, erasers, and pencils, they would come to class prepared to get right to the learning. No more searching around for pens - they'd have them in their pouches! No more excuses for not highlighting important details in texts - they'd have highlighters in their pouches! No more complaining about how they can't write in their textbooks - they'd have post-it notes to utilize for all their annotation!
My students don't ask for anything, but I know they deserve to have basic classroom necessities. They can't always acquire those necessities on their own. This is why I am asking for your help! By providing my students with these basic tools, you are encouraging them to be prepared and find success in school. Encouraging the development of these types of organizational skills is the first step in ensuring that students are college-ready. Thank you for taking an interest in my students!
