Let's Give 'Em Something to Talk About...Virtually!
Help me give my students the ability to enhance their speech language development through virtual means using a document camera to create an interactive online learning environment.
My students come to school ready to learn, but have challenges that require specially designed instruction to be successful in the general education classroom. My school is located in a rural community. It is a Title I school which means the majority of our students are at risk and live in poverty. My students primarily learn through experiences at school due to limited environmental exposure.
I have the opportunity to serve a diverse group of students presenting with articulation, fluency, language, and voice deficits.
My students work hard every day towards achieving their academic and communication goals. I love finding creative ways to motivate my students and enhance their growth. My students empower me to give my utmost efforts to reach their potential.
My Project
Good communication skills are the key to success in life. My students participate in speech therapy to enable them to express thoughts and feelings and speak so that others will understand what they are saying. My goal as a Speech Language Pathologist is to prepare them to be successful in the school setting. Typically, I encourage my students to participate in fun therapy activities in a traditional individual or small group setting; however, due to the national pandemic, I am required to provide services virtually. Teletherapy is on the rise. SLP's are creative, innovative, social, and passionate professionals. My goal is to make therapy exciting and purposeful! For students to participate in an online format, I need the resources to make therapy engaging.
In a typical therapy setting students participate in turn-taking activities to increase their communication development; however, I AM GOING VIRTUAL!
Technology is a wonderful tool to enhance learning. I would like a document camera (HoverCam Solo 8 Plus) to provide interactive Speech Language activities that are similar to face to face participation. This would give my students the ability to increase their communication skills while engaging with others in a lively therapy session.
