This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Kindergartners come to school every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. Our kindergarten class is full of diverse students from different cultures and backgrounds who come together every school day to share in their curiosity and joy of learning.
My students are curious students who thrive on hands-on and multi-sensory experiences to grow their little minds.
My goal is to find new and innovative tools for them to use to create an academically rich learning environment.
My Project
We are asking for a variety of manipulatives to be used for math and STEAM lessons. All students can benefit from concrete hands-on experiences in developing their number sense.
Number sense is a crucial skill learned in early education and concrete hands-on experience enables students to internalize numbers and their relationships for success in future math instruction.
Students will be sorting objects into different categories, seeing and manipulating a number of items in a set and combining sets of objects to create a whole. More advanced learners will be able to make connections to different arrays of objects that make the same larger number.
We can also use these manipulatives in science to learn about animal attributes and needs. They will be able to compare/contrast, classify and sort by various attributes or needs. Students will also be using the manipulatives in STEAM projects for example, to research, design and build various habitats and ecosystems.
