My Students

I teach in Washington, D.C., one of the most under-served communities of our nation's capitol. However, you would never know that from meeting my students. The incredible kids I have the honor of teaching are some of the most hard-working and optimistic people I have ever met. They come in with a smile on their faces every day, and are, simply put, SO excited to learn. Every teacher says this, but my kids are truly special and they deserve the world.

I firmly believe that every single child in my classroom can and will succeed, regardless of their zip code.

These kids are our future, and it is my job to prepare them to lead us. One of the ways I plan to do this is by instilling in them a love of learning and, more specifically, a love of reading. By captivating them with books of all genres, they will leave first grade with a wealth of knowledge and a deep passion to seek out learning wherever they can find it.

My Project

My students are passionate people, and I want to help them put that passion into reading. The items in this project will help me create a library that is exciting, engaging, and educational for my students!

Developing a love of reading sets them up for success not just in first grade, but in life.

The pillows and bean bag chair will make my library a comfortable and safe environment, and the stuffed animals will act as "reading buddies" to help my students develop their reading fluency and practice some social/sharing skills. The lights and leaves will create a true "reading jungle" where my kiddos can let their imaginations run wild!
