My Students
As a teacher in a preschool room in a low-income school district, my students are faced with challenges inside and outside of the classroom. Despite the many challenges that my students are facing, I strive to provide them with a fun, interactive, safe, and meaningful learning environment. As their teacher I try to instill the importance of communicating/listening to one another, being a good citizen and leader, and using trauma-informed techniques to aide them in their social emotional development.
My students have various learning styles, backgrounds and needs.
Due to being located in an inner-city, funding is extremely hard to come by, and in order to provide my students with the best learning experiences I can give them, I typically find ways to procure these items and experiences out of pocket or by any means I can - which is where DonorsChoose.org comes in.
My Project
I have a classroom of preschoolers who are primarily 3 years old and all first time students attending school. Preschoolers have lots of energy and lose focus quickly but I have found creating visuals to help maintain their attention and provide them with visual supports they need to make connections to their lessons and the world around them. By creating this DonorsChoose project, I will be able to have tools that I need to create classroom visuals, posters, social stories, centers, activities, nametags and more that will be less time consuming than my current method of hand-making the visuals, coloring them myself, and going to libraries or other businesses that are able to print items that meet the visual standard that my students need. These tools will allow me to quickly create items and make items to meet specific needs of individual students and the classroom as a whole. My students are ready to get visual!
