This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students with autism are attending school for the first time in a newly opened Flexroom! This space is designed for students who struggle with self-regulation in the regular education setting. Many of them need support with appropriate social interactions and understanding of different situations that happen during the school day or at home.
Visual supports and social stories have been so successful at helping my students with autism understand with pictures how to respond or what they should say in certain situations.
There are many useful resources on Teachers Pay Teachers for creating colorful Social Stories and visual supports. We will be printing and binding the “Kid Friendly” social stories to add to our classroom library. The visual supports will be printed and laminated for durable use. These resources are most important for my students to become productive in the real world and in their communities. I appreciate you reading about our class and classroom needs!
