This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
While it may seem like a small item, these two pencil sharpeners can make a meaningful difference in my students’ learning experience and even support their mental wellness. The privacy folders will help students to stay focused during assessments. They will also provide a safe space for students when they are feeling overstimulated.
Many of my students are bilingual learners, navigating the challenges of learning a new language, understanding a new culture, and keeping up with academic content—all at the same time.
This can create anxiety and self-doubt, especially when simple things—like not having a sharpened pencil—can become frustrating obstacles.
By providing them with dependable electric pencil sharpeners, students will feel more prepared, independent, and confident throughout the day. This reduces stress and helps create a smooth, calming routine in the classroom where students can focus on learning rather than small setbacks.
What makes my students so special is their resilience and determination. They work twice as hard as many of their peers because they’re learning English while also mastering grade-level content. Having the right tools—like sharpeners they can count on—helps them feel seen, supported, and ready to thrive.
