I am the school librarian for a campus of three high schools in Brooklyn. For a decade, our campus had no library or librarian, and the space was left to fester. Now, I have been brought in to bring the space back to life once our renovation is done.
Our students are bright, hard-working, and in need of engaging material.
Because of several factors, we are currently lacking in books and activities. What the students on my campus need are the various items which make a library function. Because of the state of our library, these seemingly simple items were damaged or non-existent. We have a beautiful space, new books, and no bookends or bookstands.
My Project
These vital items will help us to be a functional school library, with working infrastructure. Book displays help students find high-interest and relevant texts. Bookends keep our materials in good shape and make it easier for readers to navigate shelves. Scanners will allow for faster checkout, giving more time for learning.
Research shows that having a school library has a massive impact on student learning and growth.
All of these items have been selected in order to provide students with a functional, clean learning space. These items help students to navigate the school library with ease, a vital need in a new library.
