Help me bring science to life for my students! I work in an 8th grade science class at a charter school in Missouri. Materials and needed equipment are difficult to come by as budgets are tight. There are many things that I can do without or that I improvise for my students, however, the presentation of material is so important to student learning that I have made it a priority to get a projector.
Every day it is a challenge to construct notes and activities so that learners have multiple ways to understand the material. Drawing on the board and taking the time each morning to put all my notes up in chalk is a waste of precious time that I could use to focus on my instruction and presentation of material. A projector would be a help to myself and, more importantly, have a significant impact on student learning as it widens the scope of what I can do for and with my students.
Imagine seeing science concepts come to life. Instead of drawing the images on the board or having to focus so much energy on note taking. I can provide my students with the images and video necessary for them to understand and connect with the material. All students will have more opportunities to interact with science on multiple levels rather than simply being told how science works. A projector is an instructional tool, it will allow me to focus on what the students are understanding, rather than on what they have to write down.
With your help I can open up the world of science to students who come with a biased attitude towards science as a difficult subject. With your help I can show them the beauty of the world and how science helps us to explore and explain what we see around us.
