Let's Get Ready to Rumble and Read!

Help me give my students books that will be used in our school's Battle of the Books, such as Because of Winn Dixie, Pocket Full of Colors, and Bobbie the Wonder Dog.

My Students

The students at our school are amazing! They arrive excited to learn and become involved in whatever topic that is in the plan. We have wonderful support from our parents. We have a very diverse population of students, culturally, economically, and with different learning abilities. It has become my goal to try and stay ahead of them!

I am so proud of my students.

They LOVE to read. Some of them are struggling readers, but they try and don't quit. I have a student for whom English is a second language. He has discovered that some of the books are on audio, and it's become hard to tear him away from a book four grade levels too high! He has the book open and his finger is following the story. He pauses and asks questions when he doesn't understand. He's become an example for his classmates: now they are all burying their faces in a book.

My Project

My students are so excited that they will be old enough to participate in our school's Battle of the Books. They have been begging for some of the books to be added to my classroom library. Sadly, the books in our school library aren't allowed to be taken home. To make up for that I allow my classroom library to go home.

Battle of the Books is a program where students read the required books, and then show their knowledge of their reading in competition with other teams.

Some of the books this year are rather tough to read as third graders, but I chose some that I know my strongest readers will be able to handle, as well as books that my excited students will really enjoy.
