This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are the happiest kids you will ever meet! Their smiles are contagious and they light up our classroom every single day. My students are also all special needs and have many challenges they have to deal with on a daily basis. Our school is a Title 1 school in an economically disadvantaged area. Many of our students' families work very hard just to meet their basic needs. My students lack many of the sensory materials that are needed to help them make important learning gains.
My Project
The building tiles will improve our students' fine motor development skills. Many of our students lack fine motor development, making it difficult for them to do daily activities at school and home. The building tiles will be used during sensory and independent activity time, which will also be a time for students to enjoy building objects using their imagination. Students with cognitive disabilities often have a difficult time creating and building when given pencil and paper to draw and they eventually become frustrated and quit. These tiles are magnetic making it easier for my students to create and build without getting frustrated.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
