This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
First of all, we would like to say thank you for looking at our project. My students are active four and five year olds ready to get their hands on learning. They are eager to learn but lack the necessary supplies. School starts in September and parents struggle to purchase supplies or even uniforms. My students vary greatly in their ability levels. Many of them are English Language Learners. More than 90% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. My students attend a school in one of New York’s most diverse school districts. The teachers in our school are committed to fostering high expectations, promoting positive attitudes and to achieving equity and excellence in a safe and nurturing environment. But, like many schools, our budget has been cut and we are in need of many supplies to provide for our students.
My Project
As teachers, we are always looking to the future and getting ready for a new school year. As I reflect on the approach of a wonderful year end I begin to plan for the upcoming year. Many students come to school with little to no supplies.
We need these supplies to have a successful school year.
I like to have my students complete many art activities where they can create authentic work while learning their letters, numbers, shapes and colors. Through art I can monitor students' understanding of a concept and they have an amazing time expressing themselves. During whole group, small group and individual instruction we use color pencils, paint, paper and paint brushes on a daily basis. Paper are always needed as is a basic necessity in a school. This upcoming year I'm excited to have a big focus on writing.
Also, I want to improve the organization of our classroom with the seat sacks for students to keep some supplies at their chairs for quick access. A well-organized classroom creates a safe environment.
