This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are low-income strivers who have worked against all odds to make it this far into their high school careers. They live in a community where education is not the first option, yet they continue to push themselves to succeed.
My students are hard workers who exemplify grit and eccentricity in everything they do.
They will overcome any type of obstacles and creatively educate themselves and their classmates. There is never a dull moment around my students. Even though they might not have all the resources that a school should have, they make the best of what they have and exceed all expectations that we have as teachers. Their beautiful hearts show when they support education in every way possible.
My Project
Our school does not have a library where students can go check out books. It has been completely up to teachers to bring in books of students to read. This year, I want to develop my own classroom library to give student's access to Young Adult Books.
If we have variety, students would surely find the genre of books they could enjoy.
Most of them say reading is boring, but they haven't given it a chance. And this is mostly because there are no book in our school for them to choose from.
A classroom library would mean bringing them the resources they need to read at grade level. These books won't fill the two bookshelves I asked for, but it will be a great start.
