This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at our school are WILD about learning, but access to specific materials to aid in the learning process is scarce. The school is located in a high poverty, needy area in New York City. Because of such poverty and need, the majority of the students receive free or reduced lunch, categorizing the school as Title I. Please help our students work towards their learning goals by providing anything you can. Your generous donations will help enhance student achievement in this school. Many thanks in advance.
My Project
One targeted area that our teachers are trying to strengthen is parent engagement in the learning process. Our students love to read at school, but the resources they have at home are very limited. Now that the weather is getting cold, it is difficult to walk blocks to get to the local library. By providing children with books to take and keep at home, they will more likely engage in practicing reading skills learned at school.
Reading at home is a great way for the entire family to engage in a fun activity together.
The addition of books for children to take home would help parents become an active resource in the learning process. Academic success is a partnership between school and home. The more students read at home, the better they will perform in school. Thanks in advance!
