Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in a city where crime rates are high and there is a 98% poverty rate. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences that any other student is able to have.

Although I may not be able to control their home lives, I can certainly control their experience during the school day.

By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My students, although only 3 and 4 years old are hard workers, and they deserve to come to school and feel safe and loved, and I'm happy to be the one who is able to give them that.

My Project

My students will use the materials during our STEAM exploration time. This is a time when the students are able to explore STEAM stations. The 'S' stands for science, the 'T' stands for technology, the 'E' for engineering, 'A' for art, and the 'M' for math. At this time students are given the freedom to work collaboratively on projects of their choice within those categories. The STEAM early learning kit provides materials that guide students through problem solving tasks naturally through play and exploration. The kit teaches students about concepts such as motion and force. The magnet wands will also be used at STEAM centers to discover force.

STEAM time provides students with opportunities to gain problem solving and collaborative skills.

These skills are critical to produce quality future workers in the 21st century. It is also a time for students to use and build upon their own unique skills that may otherwise be overlooked.
