This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I know that obesity is a reality for many children due to poor diets and lack of exercise. I want to make physical education fun and rewarding for my students. I want them to learn how important it is for them to keep their bodies active and healthy.
My students attend school in a very poor section of town.
Their school is nestled among factories, train tracks, and a soup kitchen. Poverty prevails and is front and center. Gang violence is an everyday thing and for many of my students. It's the norm. They all qualify for free federal lunches. Many students spend countless hours at school weekly, from 6 am to 6 pm. Yet, they come to school with hopes and aspirations to learn and become the best students they can be. My students are amazing, sweet, and giving.
My Project
I am requesting a class set of Hoops to engage my students in various cardio vascular exercises. Having hoops will bring fun to our physical education curriculum. Students will be able to get their heart rate going in a fun and out of the ordinary way. In addition I am planning to use the jump ropes and scarves to teach my student that exercising can be fun. I will teach students how to juggle with the scarves. This is a fun way to keep them active even when we can't go out side due to inclement weather. Please help me plant to the seed so that all my students can learn how important keeping your body active is not only for good health now but also in the future.
Please help me teach my students the importance of keeping active.
Many don't really have a chance to play outside their homes or have equipment to play with. They live in a very dangerous neighborhood and stay indoors all day. Their only chance to be active is at school. Please help me teach the whole child: spirit, mind, and body.
