This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
John Dewey once said "If we teach today as we taught yesterday, then we rob our children of tomorrow."
I believe in this quote when it comes to special education and moving forward.
Here at our elementary school, we constantly evaluate what we can do to make our instruction, interventions, and school culture positive and effective. One way would be to incorporate flexible seating for our special needs students. One of the challenges many of my students face is difficulty in reading, writing, and phonics. With the addition of flexible seating in our classroom, my students will be able to focus more on their work as the flexible seating options will provide them with their needs. These flexible seating options are essential in a special education classroom as many of my students cannot sit and focus in a regular chair so yoga balls, chair rockers, and bouncy seats will help my students become more engaged and feel comfortable while learning.
My Project
The comfy floor chairs and calming colors beanbags will make a huge difference in my special education classroom. These flexible seating options will improve my students' performance and focus. It is proven that when kids are comfortable they retain and learn more than when they are uncomfortable. School chairs are hard and can be distracting for some students with special needs. With the addition of flexible seating in our classroom, my students' school life will improve as they will have the comforts they need to learn and be successful in school. Flexible seating in the classroom is a great way to help those students that fidget, wiggle, and need to move when learning.
