My students need multiple opportunities to explore their physical development. With these resources, I will be able to create stations on our outdoor playground.
Our school is NYC Board of Education Initiative. It's program's philosophy is to make Pre-K available to all eligible children. Our District has 18 sites around District 24 which is inclusive of many different neighborhoods such as, Elmhurst, Ridgewood, Sunnyside, Woodside, Glendale, Maspeth and Middle Village, Queens. Our centers host many different students from all parts of the world. There are at least 10 different languages represented in our center alone which is located in the heart of Elmhurst, Queens. Many of our families and students are second language learners. We do our best to enrich their lives with print rich, language supported classroom environments.
My Project
My job as a Pre-K educator is to develop young minds. Part of our curriculum focuses on the physical development which is inclusive of fine and gross motor skills. As part of our daily routine, our students are required to play outside for 60 minutes. All of the materials I have submitted for this project are going to improve their accuracy, strength, and coordination. It works on their core system by developing skills such as throwing, tossing, and balancing. The beanbag center and the basketball pursuit ball set will work on their eye hand coordination as well as their accuracy. It also incorporates math, literacy and science due to the shapes and colors. The partner parachutes will foster team building and cooperation. By creating learning stations that incorporate different materials, our students will be able to strengthen and develop their muscles while having fun. I have selected materials that will take our already fun and exciting classrooms outside onto the playgrounds. I believe that when learning is enjoyable there is no better way to engage young learners.
