My Students

Do you remember being read to as a young child? How the reader held your attention? Unfortunately, the children in my class rarely have that opportunity in their home setting. School is the only place where they will get to hear a story read to them with proper fluency and expression.

We are a class of twenty-six English Language Learners in a Michigan kindergarten classroom.

Many of us have not been lucky enough to go to pre-school, so this is our first time in school! We are all five years old, although some of us have already turned six! For most of us, school is the only opportunity for us to pick up a good book and engage in fun, educational activities! We are ready and eager to learn.

My Project

My goal is to create a technology center in my classroom. I want to offer my students the latest learning devices. By having a NookColor and iPad2 in our classroom, more children, especially the boys in my class, will be interested in reading. It seems that most of the boys in my class LOVE the gaming systems out on the market or any technology for that matter. Since this is similar to a hand-held gaming device, my hope is that I will be able to show more boys that reading can be fun and exciting! I would also be able to use the iPad2 in so many ways! The iPad2 is a wonderful tool that I would be able to use in order to differentiate instruction. Students that need some extra practice will be able to work on letter recognition, number recognition and also practice their handwriting. Those students that have mastered certain skills will then be able to work at a higher level in order to build on the skills they have in place.
