My students need hands-on materials and games to assist them with learning their ABCs and sight words.

My Students
This year, my kindergarten class is full of students who are bright, full of energy, and eager to learn. I have a total of 19 students in my class, but that number is always changing. There are many different home languages represented, and most of my students have never been to school or preschool before.
We have barely been in school a month, and already my five-year-old students are enjoying crafts and table activities and finding interesting ways to play with and explore blocks, Play-Doh, crayons, markers, and books.
My students love our colorful and inviting classroom. We have been taking the time to learn about each other and build relationships so that meaningful learning can begin to take place.
My Project
In Kindergarten, students are expected to learn all 26 letters (uppercase and lowercase), the sounds the letters make, and close to 100 sight words. A typical five-year-old learns best through play. I want my students to have so much fun playing that they don't realize that they are learning.
These materials will let my students get hands-on experiences with the alphabet and allow them to learn through play.
These materials will be used for literacy centers. The ABC stamps will be put in my writing center and will allow my students to stamp words and letters in their journals to make stories. The wiki sticks will be put in my word work center to allow students to practice shaping the sticks into letters and words. The alphabet locks will be a literacy station where students will practice matching the letter to a picture of an object that starts with that letter. The file folder games will be used at my teacher table first as a teaching tool. Later they will be added to a literacy station for independent practice.
