Children in this neighborhood come to school every day looking for a brighter future, a warm safe-haven and food to fill their bellies. You can help me deliver on my promise to better their lives. As a new 7th grade math teacher, my classroom is bare. The community I work in is high-need and I want to give these students the best chance they can get of doing better for themselves. Most of them will be lucky to graduate high school in 5 years. They need me to brighten up their lives and help them through the troubled teenage years.

As a new teacher, I have nothing to decorate my walls with and nothing to use to demonstrate mathematical concepts. I am unable to draw perfect circles on the board with a compass or demonstrate the use of a protractor on the board. My lessons need to be spiced up with hands-on materials and helpful visual tools. All of my students, especially my special education students, would benefit a lot from being able to manipulate the math concepts that I am presenting.

There are a lot of small things that in combination would drastically improve my classroom and motivate my students. If I had sets of math posters, my room would be brighter and more exciting. Besides brightening my room, I need to develop the learning experience. In order to improve the hands-on experience in my classroom, I need a few types of tools. Sets of compasses and protractors along with the counterparts for the whiteboard would help the students to practice their skills. Sets of base ten blocks and an algebra set are also essential for our algebra and counting units. My students are also tiring from drawing grids to practice graphing and graph paper would alleviate their drawing pains.

I thank you in advance for reaching out to our classroom and helping me make a brighter future for these students. All of these tools will increase their chances for success.
