Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Upon entering the art room the other day, one of my students saw the supplies I had assembled and said, "I'm not sure what we're doing today, but I know it's going to be fun." The best learning happens when students are engaged in something challenging and fun. When students create two and three dimensional artworks from their imaginations, sculpting with clay, painting, drawing and printmaking they experience the kind of challenge that supports their intellectual growth and achievement.
Our Pre-K to 7th grade public school is located in an ethnically diverse, low income, inner city neighborhood in the Northeast.
Many of my students are very talented, but families can't afford private art lessons and art-camp in the summer. To be artistically successful, our students need a top notch, public school, arts education program.
My Project
Setting up supplies for art projects and cleaning up the classroom afterward is a challenge for the art teacher to do alone. My students are anxious to help, but our supplies are stored in a variety of wall cabinets and shelves around the room which are not easily accessible to most students.
This new 20-cubby storage unit with 20 clear plastic bins is the perfect solution to our problem.
Our young artists will not only be able to quickly find and set-up the scissors, erasers, crayons, markers and glue for their table group but clean-up will be a snap! Everything will have a proper place that is clear and accessible to even the youngest artist.
