My students need space and privacy. The book baggies and caddies are needed because students have limited space in their desks. Also, since space is limited within the class, they need partitions when taking exams.
It's not difficult to describe how you feel about a group of children that capture your heart from the first day you meet them. Most of my students are of Asian descent and come from low-income homes. Although many live with their parents or grandparents, these individuals work long hours to provide their children with what they can. Several of the families are new to the country and speak little to no English. However, the children show a passion for learning and moving forward to a bright future.
My Project
Things can get really tight in a classroom with 32 students. Space is limited and we must come up with different ways to keep ourselves organized. Students' desks, especially, get crammed and messy. They struggle to find things through all those notebooks and textbooks. Book baggies would be a great idea to at least keep their leveled books together and easily accessible. The caddies can also be a way to organize other supplies on their desks rather than inside. Also, since space is limited, it's difficult to move around desks when taking exams. The partitions can be a quick fix to test taking, which is huge in 3rd grade.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
