My students need 30 three ring binders with tab dividers to maintain research and learning logs during a three-semester long college readiness curriculum.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Hooper's classroom raised $452
This project is fully funded
These students are juniors in my AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) elective class. They are college bound students. We are at a inner-city public high school in Minnesota.
My students will be first generation college students--the first in their families to go to college. Many of them of come from underrepresented demographic groups, low income families, and some are immigrants. Yet, these students are taking advanced courses (Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate). They are hard working students, and now believe that they can achieve their dreams to become a pediatrician, an attorney, an events planner, an entertainment lawyer, a scientist and a myriad of other goals and aspirations they have for themselves.
These juniors will begin a three-semester long college readiness curriculum this fall that focuses on the essential critical reading, writing and thinking skills that will help them be successful in college. This curriculum was developed by a college professor with the input of experienced high school teachers.
A critical component of the curriculum is a research and learning log students will maintain over the next 15 months. Students already use binders on a daily basis to maintain notes and coursework in their various core academic courses. The binder needed for this research and learning log will be a separate binder specifically for the college readiness curriculum.
The binders will help the students learn to organize and plan large scale assignments over time by providing them a tangible organizational system. Additionally, the learning log component will, over time, help the students recognize their learning and growth, thus encouraging them to continue to challenge themselves.
Your contribution to this project is greatly appreciated. These students are truly diamonds in the rough and your support will help them to overcome their personal obstacles and achieve their goals and dreams.
