My students need ways to organize their amazing new file boxes and storage totes!
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Ford's classroom raised $491

My Students
Awesome STEM projects have many parts and pieces! With a very small STEM classroom this year, organization is critical. Students need bins to keep their group work organized allowing them to (literally) build on their learning each week without starting anew.
My students represent a diverse group of PS through 5th graders in Northeast Washington, DC.
Our DC Public School is one that truly values inquiry and learning by doing and our students continue to rise to our expectations every day. From the youngest preschool student to the oldest 5th grade student, all receive science instruction in the classroom and practice in Habits of Mind using their Multiple Intelligences in my Think Tank/STEM program. Our unique school is a special one, with over 350 unique and eager learners who thrive on hands-on, inquiry-based learning. These materials would benefit all students at our school in a variety of STEM units.
My Project
This year we had to move the Think Tank lab to a very small classroom space-- one that necessitates materials to help us stay organized! We have had to be creative to ensure there is room for students and curriculum in the new space!
We are implementing two major STEM programs (Project Lead the Way and Engineering is Elementary) in grade K-5. Each of these include many parts where students build on their learning from week to week by creating models or ongoing projects. Without bins to store the materials for the units and their student groups, they would have to take apart everything each week, diminishing the impact of the program. Each group, in every grade level will be assigned a bin where they will keep their ongoing work. Then, at the end of class, these bins can be stacked and stored allowing room for students in the classroom space.
In addition, when units are no in use, they will be stored in an outdoor shed. These bins will protect materials for future use.
The ability to build on learning, especially when working on an engineering challenge, is critical.
These materials will allow all students in grades K-5 to have their work safe and protected so that they can focus on the learning and not on rebuilding each week. They will take ownership of "their bin" and work together to keep materials organized and inventoried inside, helping them not only with STEM concepts but all important organization skills as well!
