My Students
Do you remember when you were young and you had your favorite book that you couldn't put down? Well, my 2nd grade students have several favorite books they like to tote around with them, but they have nothing to safely store these precious treasures in!
I am a 2rd grade teacher in a high poverty school in the Northwest.
Over 85% of my students are from low-income households. There is also a wide range of diversity in our classroom, with 9 different native languages being spoken by all 26 of my students. Despite the challenges of their home lives, all of the students are kind, hard-working, and they have a tremendous desire to learn.
My Project
I am requesting 32 reusable, nylon book bags and 1 electric pencil sharpener to help my students stay organized during our daily writers workshop and literacy block. Having these book bags will allow my students to store several books at a time in their desk. With the attached handle, they can carry their book bag all around the classroom and even take it home to read their favorite books. Most importantly, these bags will help keep our books stored safely in their desks and keep them from getting damaged as they move from place to place.
I always tell the students, "We need to treat our books like they are our most precious treasures," and with these bags, they will be able to do just that! The pencil sharpener will also save the students and myself a great deal of time and hassle. With an electric pencil sharpener we can have plenty of sharpened pencils in seconds without the mess of a handheld pencil sharpener, which gives us more time to read and learn!
By making a donation to this project, you will help give my 2nd graders two new tools to stay organized.
With these colorful book bags, my students will be able to keep our library books safe as they travel from their desks to their homes. The pencil sharpener will help save us time and keep our classroom tidy. Please help us to get these organization tools for our classroom so we can take care of our classroom resources and focus on learning!
