This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Will the classrooms be clean? How different does a high school classroom look compared to a middle school one? These are some of the questions students wrote on their end-of-the-year survey when I asked them what they were most nervous about for the next school year.
After a year and a half of remote learning during a time when many students dealt with incredible loss and hardships, my students are happy to return to the classroom this fall -- with a few reservations.
In order to combat these reservations, community building, and creating a welcoming environment will be of paramount importance this fall.
My Project
For this project, I am requesting organization basics including magnetic wall files, utility cart, and printer stand. Over the past few months, our building has had lots of construction projects to help fix the poor ventilation. While the ventilation has been improved, the construction left a lot of our classrooms in disarray. In my classroom, for example, construction crews damaged (accidentally, I want to believe) shelving units and other wall storage I had on display. To start the new school year fresh and help keep supplies, books, and resources in order, storage is greatly needed. The utility cart will be used at the front of the classroom to keep supplies such as markers and colored pencils that students use often. The printer stand will be used to hold our new printer funded from DonorsChoose.org and paper. The magnetic wall files allow me to create a separate place to store handouts and worksheets for each of my classes. Students know to look in their class file if they are missing work.
An organized classroom helps students feel at ease while taking care of donated resources and materials.
Now that our building's ventilation has been updated, it's also time to update our classrooms. Your support can make this happen.
