This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
One of the most amazing parts of teaching preschool is seeing the boundless energy that these little ones have and how that translates into activities they do. It is also pretty awesome to see the pure joy students have when being exposed to materials and toys not often found at home.
Having materials and toys during our gross motor time is essential in order for the students to burn off some of that energy, gain important physical skills, and most importantly, have fun!
We as adults often forget these skills need to be taught and students need opportunities to practice these skills daily. With a balance beam students would be able to practice their balancing, balancing while side stepping, and forwards walking. In addition to the physical skill there are also other essential skills practiced like following directions (for helpful tips) and persistence to keep trying. A parachute would create opportunities for teamwork since it can only be used in a group setting. This type of activity is the beginning of working together as a team which can be the foundation for students to pursue sports later on.
