My Students

"A moving child is a learning child." My kids thrive on movement in the classroom. Whether it's "brain breaks," singing, dancing, bouncing--if they're moving, they're learning.

Throughout the year, teachers we get to know the students in our class.

We learn how they learn best. Some are visual learners, others auditory learners, some learn best with pictures, some with lecture, some with interactive learning; however, there is one thing that most of them have in common. Just like all children, the children in my class thrive on motion. When they are moving, as opposed to sitting in a desk, they are attentive, and better retain knowledge. The expectation that students sit in a desk all day is not realistic for a class of children. Children need to move. They long to move. The movement helps them to remain focused and attentive.

My Project

Throughout this year, I have students that wiggle and fidget in their seats. These particular students do much better work when allowed to stand, sit on the floor, or move around at their seat. In an effort to cater to these students, I would like to have the option of them sitting on a yoga ball. I understand that this will not be the best option for every student. However, if it is the best option for even one, it will improve their learning in the classroom.

Children that can learn, are children who are successful.

Success in school increases confidence. The goal in my classroom is to create an environment that results in confident and successful learners. I believe that if children can move while they learn, they can have better focus and attention, which will translate into academic success.
