Let's Get Moving With STEM

My students need manipulatives and materials for STEM education. They need more in-depth knowledge of math and science, and the ability to solve challenges. The STEM kits and books will be greatly beneficial.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Mason's classroom raised $564

My Students

I have a classroom of 20 diverse learners. My students love science but do not have the opportunity to do a lot of science experiments because I do not have classroom materials or books to teach science the way I feel it should be taught. Whenever I mention to my students that we are going to do a science experiment they jump out of their seats and get so excited.

"We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology." -Carl Sagan

In the small community where I teach, unemployment is very high. Businesses are not inclined to come to our area, due to the lack of qualified skilled workers in our work force. Our work force is lacking in skills such as in-depth knowledge of math and science as well as technology.

My Project

These resources will provide my students with a variety of skills such as innovation, creativity, communication, problem solving and critical thinking. Students will build a bridge at the bridge building center which will teach my students to look closer at real-life designs. In the chain reaction kits, students will be engaged with setting up course of ramps, angles, and practice with the concepts of gravity, force, and motion. Using the Real-World STEM Challenge kits, students will build problem solving skills by saving a town from flash flood, rescue a bear from a well, and guide a family safety across a bridge. The teaching methods of STEM are inquiry-based and student-centered so these resources and materials will be outstanding for engineering designs. "The science of today is the technology of tomorrow." -Edward Teller

Also, I will incorporate literacy with these resources by integrating books on math, engineering, science, and technology through activity and picture books.

Students will be ready for the future.
