This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Kid, you'll move mountains!" ~ Dr. Seuss
Help my kids get moving out at recess! Help them work together, build team spirit, problem solve, and teach them that NOT being in front of a screen is a good thing! Remember what it was like to play with your friends at recess? Freedom and fun!
My students don't always have the privilege of going outside to play after school.
Many of them have not explored athleticism and are not comfortable playing outside their homes. At school, many kids just walk around, sit and talk, or draw. I would like to see them moving and grooving! They need to work together, problem solve, and explore movement. Our school does not have the funding to purchase classroom playground equipment. We have three playground balls that are supposed to last all year long.
My Project
My kids need to have more access to play. A Lakeshore Active Play Kit will help build confidence, and help them feel good about moving! This will also help fight childhood obesity and diabetes. Our class members will be using and sharing our equipment at recess in order to get more kids moving, working cooperatively, and having fun!
We all know the challenges facing children today when it comes to outside play.
Many children do not live in a neighborhood where they feel safe enough to go play or are at home alone while the parents work. Our kids need to be able to explore movement, working together, and building self-esteem.
