My Students

"I believe children are the future. Teach them well and let them lead the way." These are not only words from a popular song but a strong belief that I hold as a teacher.

Equity for all!

My students are full of potential. They are bright shining beacons of light. I am asking for assistance so that they can glow like the stars that they are.

Fortunately, for the students in my class, envisioning the future is something we think of and talk about often. Because their daily existence is so challenging, I have them focus on their bright and delightful futures!

I teach in a low socio-economic area at a Title I school where 99% of the population receives free breakfast and lunch at school. On most days the heartiest and healthiest meals that the students receive are what they eat at school. It isn't unusual for the students in my class to stockpile food in their book bags to take home in order to have something to eat later that day.

Despite the harsh circumstances and backdrops of their lives, the students come to school daily with smiles on their faces.

My Project

Our community in the Bronx, New York has been devastated by the Corona Virus. Our school opened for blended learning, but was recently closed due to the high positive results after random Covid Testing at our school.

These children have been thru so much Trama!

They need a coping mechanism. Writing is a form of self-expression, that I want to give these youngster. Writing about their tremendous losses, will be like a form of therapy for these first graders. Imagine all they've gone thru this year: losing a family member, parent out of work, limited access to food, not being able to go to school, living in a shelter, not being able to see or touch family members. It's enough to break anyone. Help me... help my kids, heal through writing. I want to teach them this very important form of self-care. Thank you!
