This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Technology continues to grow in leaps and bounds. Interactive whiteboards, once unimaginable, are now commonplace in many classrooms - except ours.
My first graders live in urban Illinois, in an impoverished community.
Most of my students speak Spanish at home, and all receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many students lack technology at home, and their sole interactions with computers and other educational technology happens at school. However, technology in our school and district is deeply lacking. But this doesn't have to be the case!
My Project
An interactive whiteboard would give me the opportunity to transform student interactions with technology and lessons. Interactive whiteboards allow students and teachers to manipulate objects on a screen, much like a tablet, in a way that allows the whole class to participate. I envision using the whiteboard to update our calendar routine to using virtual manipulatives to explore deeper mathematical concepts. Students would interact with texts in reading, physically highlighting words or circling evidence in an illustration. During center rotations, students could use the whiteboard to play interactive literacy and math games with a partner or small group. Throughout the day, students would interact with learning and each other by using this technological tool frequently.
As we become a technology-driven society, we need to ensure that all students have access to technology.
For my students, this means exposure to and learning from technology in the classroom. With your donation, you will enable my eager first graders to explore technology in an interactive, hands-on way. Thank you for your support!
