My Students
I teach first grade at an elementary school in Northeast Philadelphia. My students enter the classroom each day excited to learn how to read, write, speak and listen. They each have a heart of gold paired with motivation and determination to be the best that they can be.
Our school population is more than 60% economically disadvantaged and 10% English language learners.
Our students come from all over the world including Vietnam, China, Mexico, Pakistan, Nigeria, Columbia, Puerto Rico, and of course Philadelphia. Our school provides a nurturing environment for students, staff, and families to enrich them academically and grow as positive social contributors in our world. Our parents are extremely supportive and involved in their child's education. Our parents and students aspire to succeed and achieve their goal of living the American Dream. Due to the School District of Philadelphia's financial crisis, all of our educational supplies, resources, and materials are either limited or non-existent. Many teachers spend much of their own paychecks each year to be sure that they, along with their students, have everything that they need to succeed!
My Project
Having replacement ink cartridges in our classroom will greatly make a difference in my students' learning. Adding color to the classroom reinforces to students just how much we as teachers value their learning and education! Many class posters, projects, pictures, and decorative labels need to be printed by the teacher or students. Most students do not have access to a printer at home, and by receiving more ink for our classroom printer, this will greatly help to create a vibrant classroom full of impeccable student work. I want to present my students with appealing materials to show the just how much I value the environment and the importance of a great classroom culture!
