This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have the largest amount of students in my classroom than any other room at my school. I am currently teaching thirty-one first-graders in a Title I school, located in a high poverty and high crime area of Pennsylvania.
All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students come from homes where English is not spoken. I have three special education students and four ESL (English as a Second Language) students in my classroom. Six of the students in my classroom have an in-class social worker.
My Project
My students came up with the idea for this project because they got tired of being hungry and thirsty in the afternoon. They were hoping to get boxes of healthy snacks in order to get more energy. My first graders have expressed an interest in getting healthy snacks such as pop chips and pita chips. They also asked for water bottles. My students tend to get thirsty and hungry every afternoon since they eat lunch at 11:00.
For this kid inspired project, my students would like to have trail mixes and an assortment of pita chips.
My students will use the dry erase board and decals in their writing area. They will write ways that they can have a healthier life. They will list their favorite healthy foods. They will also list different kinds of exercises that they would like to do for 60 minutes a day. My little ones also came up with the idea that they want to exercise for 60 minutes a day. They love dancing and exercising to Go Noodle and Activity Works. They will list more fun exercises on our dry erase board.
