My students need to understand the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. This trip to Oklahoma City Thunder will encourage students to exercise, make healthy choices and see the fun in it!
READY! SET! GO! Exercise and eat healthy! Students seem to spend more and more time sitting inside playing video games and eating fast food. We want to provide an opportunity for our students to see athletes in action and see how FUN exercise can be.
Our students are from various cultures in a suburban area.
Many of our families have two hard-working parents. Their lives are very busy and therefore have to be on the go and eat fast food many times throughout the week. Some of our students do participate in various sports but still don't understand the importance of eating healthy to give them more energy and live a long healthy life. We understand fast food is easier and cheaper sometimes.
The professionals will teach the students how to make healthy choices from some of their favorite fast food restaurants. Some students think "playing" is playing their video games. We hope by watching the athletes and mascots the students will want to get in the gym or just play outside. The professionals will also teach the students easy ways to implement exercise into their already busy lives.
My Project
This opportunity stresses eating healthy and having a healthy plate from the 4 food groups. The students will receive an educational booklet about healthy living. We will discuss this booklet at school. Students will create their own healthy plates by creating various meals for a week.
We will focus on this as we also discuss Oklahoma Agriculture and create healthy recipes using crops from Oklahoma. The professionals will also teach the students easy ways to implement exercise into their already busy lives.
At school, students will participate in various units including bowling, basketball, archery, and more. We will end our unit with a "field day" where students can participate in various games that they can create at their own home with their family and friends.
Allowing students to see professional athletes and mascots perform and hear from health professionals and athletes in person will stress the importance of healthy living.
Students are so impressed with athletes and don't realize how much they have to work at becoming that talented.
Students hear the information from their teachers each day at school. Students listen even more when they hear how important making healthy choices are from professionals and athletes. Let's Get Healthy!
