My Project

My classroom is full of wonderfully diverse students. My classroom library doesn't represent them, currently. This is sad, but this summer I spent weekends traveling to yard sales looking for current graphic novels. I even scanned different social media sites for free books.

I just couldn't find minority authors, like those who write graphic novels and their current stories.

Last year I added the author Jerry Craft to my library, and his three books never stayed on the shelves. His books were read and reread. It’s also important to me to have a courageous female lead character. Our young girls need to be represented and shown that the world is open to them in every capacity.
