My Students
Man, I love where I teach and the amazing students I get to work with each year. My school is a public school where students come from all over to attend. Students are chosen through a lottery process to make sure our classrooms are balanced with students representing all races, cultures, and socioeconomic levels. We have students representing neighborhoods from around our school as well as the surrounding school districts.
Each year I am amazed at how energetic and creative my first graders are.
They are thinkers who have a love of learning and all they need is the right environment to thrive.
My Project
My students will be in a new learning environment this year. My classroom is participating in some action research with flexible seating. Organization is important for first graders to learn. Being organized can allow the students to focus on the academics like reading and writing instead of keeping track of their things.
So many struggle staying organized as it is, let alone in a new type of learning environment like a flexible seating classroom.
These items will help get my first graders organized thus helping them learn life skills like responsibility and respect of others' property. They will use the 12-Drawer Organizer and book bins to store items like folders, journals, books, etc. since they don't have desks.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
