Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Third grade math standards include counting money and making change. Students of today need to go beyond that. I want to help my students understand money, how to spend and save money for the future. A Chromebook computer in the classroom will let us access resources that will help us achieve that goal.
We are a Title I, low-performing school with a majority of English-language learners.
I teach a wonderful class of 25 third-graders.They are excited, energetic, and enthusiastic. My students love school, especially when they can use technology to enhance their learning! They do not have many opportunities for technology at home (or at school) and I want to provide them with the opportunity to integrate technology into learning about money, finances, and financial literacy.
My Project
Class sizes have increased, schedules have been filled with test prep and rigid math and reading programs. Third grade math standards include counting money and making change. Students of today need to go beyond that. I want to help my students understand money, how to spend and save money for the future. There are wonderful online/ interactive resources that my students can use in the classroom to learn how money works in the real world. For example, Practical Money Skills is an online resource focused on financial literacy and education. TheMint includes fun financial literacy activities for kids, including basic information about starting a business, earning money, spending it wisely, and saving and investing. We have used this site whole group in the classroom. A Chromebook computer will allow my students to access these websites independently in the classroom and allow my students to go beyond the money basics, and begin learning financial literacy in the classroom.
The Chromebook computer in the classroom will help my students begin learning about finances and financial literacy.
