Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students LOVE to read! When they are independently reading, they can go through their whole book bag in one sitting, but to get them to this point they first need to start with some easy A and B level readers.

Most of my students did not attend preschool but despite that they are eager to be readers.

First beginning to read can be difficult but my students work hard to master basic literacy skills. About half of my students are non native English speakers; however this does not stop them from learning the skills they need to read.

My Project

I am asking for leveled readers for my students to read during independent reading time. These books are designed to be of high interest and to challenge students with little frustration. These books are critical for their growth as readers. My students will utilize these readers to master foundational reading skills that they will carry with them for a lifetime. In addition I am asking for book bins to store the books in. During their book 'shopping' time my students will be able to easily locate all of the books that are just right for them simply by finding the leveled bin. This will boost their independence as a reader.

In our state there is a big push for having our students be strong and critical readers; however we are given few books to work with.

Let's get a running start and instill in our students the wonderful world of reading by providing them with the skills as well as the resources to do so!
