This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are an enthusiastic, imaginative group of fifth graders. They are living in an inner-city community. Many are living in shelters. Some are English Language Learners and others have an Individualized Educational Plan. There are many students who have repeated a grade. Most face challenges both inside and outside of school on a daily basis. Despite these challenges, they love learning. They work hard every day in school and at home. They work with classmates to problem solve. They have goals and are working hard to achieve them.
My Project
Having these bright and cheery pillows will make our library a more inviting place to read.
Reading should happen in a welcoming and cozy place.
This kind of atmosphere will help reluctant readers to relax and enjoy the books they have chosen. In that way, students will build stamina. They will spend more time in the library perusing the many book choices available to them. Groups of students could work together on the rug doing buddy reading and Readers' Theater. Having a library that is colorful and comfortable will encourage my students to relax, choose a good book and snuggle up and read.
